Global Medical Intelligence Group (GMIG) is a medical advocacy and case review organization founded by physicians, health advocates, and community practitioners who recognized a recurring issue: Black and other racialized individuals often face dismissal, misunderstanding, or lack of support during critical medical situations.

Every report we prepare is completed to the GHIS™ standard, by specialists certified in three core areas of expertise.

You trained for years to understand medicine. In Canada, that knowledge is too often left sitting in a drawer. The GHIS™ certification turns it into recognized, paid, non-clinical work: reading records, navigating systems, and advocating for patients who have no one else doing it.
Who the GHIS™ is built for
Internationally trained medical graduates
You hold a medical degree earned outside Canada. You may be waiting on exams, a residency match, or a licensure pathway that may never open. A GHIS™ does not require Canadian licensure, because it is not a clinical role. It is a way to use your medical training now, ethically and in your own name.
Internationally trained nurses and allied health professionals
Nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, and allied health graduates whose credentials are not yet recognized here, but whose clinical literacy is real.
Social workers, PSWs and community health workers
You already advocate. The GHIS™ adds structured records literacy and system navigation to the work you are doing informally.

The certification pathway
- 1Apply
Submit your background and credentials. We assess prior training, because an internationally trained physician and a family caregiver do not need the same starting point.
- 2Train
Complete the six competency modules, delivered online with in-person sessions in the Greater Toronto Area. Built around real, de-identified case files rather than theory.
- 3Examine
Sit a proctored written examination and complete a practical assessment: a full records review and advocacy plan, marked against the GHIS™ standard.
- 4Certify and be listed
Receive the GHIS™ designation and a public registry entry so any client, hospital or employer can independently verify that you hold it in good standing.
Why this credential holds up
Trademark filed
GHIS™ and Global Health Intelligence Specialist™ are filed with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, application no. 2489010. The designation is owned and protected, not borrowed.
A published competency framework
A full Occupational Profile and Competency Framework, version 1.0, is in final development and will define every competency, the standard of performance, and the legislation it is anchored to.
A real examination
Certification is earned through assessment, not attendance. A credential nobody can fail is a credential nobody respects.
A public verification register
Every certified GHIS™ is listed and independently verifiable, so the designation means something to the person on the other side of the table.
A defined scope of practice
The framework states plainly what a GHIS™ does and does not do. A GHIS™ does not diagnose, prescribe or treat, and that boundary is examined and enforced.
Employer-facing by design
Built so hospitals, community health organizations, insurers and legal teams can hire against a known standard rather than guessing at a resume.

Before the founding cohort opens, we are running the full certification with two participants at no cost, to test and sharpen the program with people who need it. Priority goes to internationally trained medical graduates in the Greater Toronto Area. In exchange we ask for honest, detailed feedback and permission to use your experience, anonymously, to improve the standard.
